Perfect Greens Engulfed by History

With a long, diverse history Steenberg Golf Club is one of the oldest, most prestigious clubs in the Cape Peninsula. The history of the area dates back to 1682 when the area was allocated to Catharina Ustings Ras by the Cape Governor of the time – Simon van der Stel. Catharina – a controversial figure in her time – was a young German widow who was granted the land in 1682 with a mandate that was only approved in 1688. The mandate allowed her to, “cultivate, to plough, to sow and to possess” the land.

In 1994, the first developer broke ground, and within their vision, they created a premier golf estate in South Africa. The land was transformed from a farm with a wetland to one of the most exceptional golfing experiences in the world. Presently the golf estate offers a wide range of signature experiences including a divine restaurant, winery luxury spa, and all decorated with original artworks from highly acclaimed South African artists such as Cecil Skotnes and Edoardo Villa.

The Golf Course

The golf course officially opened in 1996 and continues to be a prime destination for premium golfing, dining and lifestyle experiences. The 18-hole golf course consists of four Par 3’s, ten Par 4’s, four Par 5’s and envious views of the Steenberg mountain range. The greens are protected with both sand and water and emphasize the beautifully designed fairways throughout the golf course.

The Steenberg Classic

The Steenberg Classic has been the highlight of the Steenberg golf calendar since its inception in 2000. The Classic is an initiative started by Steenberg members who wanted to contribute to the local communities. What began as a competition on a Saturday morning has grown to a weeklong journey with eight events and a significant fundraising opportunity for the community. Every cent raised by the event is donated to chosen beneficiaries and over the 18 years over five million Rand has been raised
